Sagarika Ghose’s Indira Gandhi: India’s most Powerful Prime Minister is all about deifying the Nehru- Gandhi family. You will get a lot to know even about Motilal Nehru who died when Indira was in her early teens. The author has tried to portray this ‘holy clan’ as the first family of India’s freedom struggle.

She has mischievously tried to draw a comparative analogy between the 2002 Gujarat Riots and 1984 Sikh riots, and she has only done disservice to the cause by mentioning Rajiv Gandhi’s statement which was then perceived as indirect justification of 1984 riots. she has also made a desperate attempt to portray Indira’s parliamentarian husband Feroze Gandhi as a person with a regressive mindset.

It is a well known fact that Indira played a key role in the unceremonious dismissal of Kerala’s first democratically- elected left government which didn’t impress her husband.

Overall, there is nothing great in this book at least contentwise, however I must say the book is very neatly typesetted with a beautiful collection of pictures. And the publisher of the book must be appreciated for choosing such a beautiful cover
